Raymond Felton returns to New York Knicks

Raymond Felton is returning to the New York Knicks, and the end result of that will likely lead to Jeremy Lin joining the Houston Rockets, according to multiple reports

The Knicks will acquire Felton and Kurt Thomas from Portland in exchange for Jared Jeffries and Dan Gadzuric, Frank Isola of the New York Daily News is reporting. Felton will get a three-year, $10 million contract, according to Yahoo! Sports.

The Knicks will also receive the rights to two players in Europe and will send the Trail Blazers a 2016 second-round pick, according to the Daily News.

Ironically, the Houston Rockets cut Lin before the start of last season. Now they have signed him to an offer sheet that could pay him over $25 million in the next three seasons and with the Felton deal, the Knicks are unlikely to match the Lin offer, according to multiple reports. The New York Post is reporting that the Knicks will not match the offer sheet.

The Rockets offer sheet was heavily backloaded, according to ESPN.com, with Lin making $5 million in the first year, $5.225 million in the second year and $14.8 million in the third year.

Felton, 28, averaged 11.4 points and 6.5 assists for Portland last season.

He started 54 games for the Knicks in 2010-11, averaging 17.1 points and 9.0 assists.

Felton spent his first five seasons with the Charlotte Bobcats and also played briefly (21 games) with Denver in 2010-11.

Lin, who made the Warriors as an undrafted rookie in 2010, spent time in the D-League before being released. He averaged 2.6 points in 29 games for Golden State.

Houston picked Lin up, but released him right before the start of last season.

The Knicks added Lin to the roster, and he had a breakout season in 2012 that led to him becoming a national phenomenon for a brief while.

Lin averaged 18.2 points and 7.7 assists in 25 starts before his season was cut short by a knee injury that required surgery.

Houston lost its top two point guards from last year’s team. The Rockets traded Kyle Lowry to Toronto earlier in the week, and also lost point guard Goran Dragic, who returned to Phoenix in free agency.
